The Thalidomide Trust is a unique organisation supporting a small number of beneficiaries aged 54-60 with a range of physical disabilities including limb damage, hearing and visual impairment, brain and sensory impairment and damage to internal organs. They are a remarkable group of people, who have achieved a great deal despite often living with extreme levels of disability.
Our beneficiaries have very complex and varied needs which are increasing as they age. The trustees provide effective governance and oversight to ensure the Trust understands these needs and has well managed resources to meet them. This includes oversight of the research programme funded by the Trust to gather evidence of the impact of changing needs and develop effective and often innovative ways to provide support to meet them.
We are looking for an experienced research professional with a strategic approach and a strong research data focus to join the Charity as a Trustee* at this challenging and exciting time.
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Experience of operating at a senior level in a health or social science research environment
- Experience of designing, conducting and analysing research and ensuring that conclusions and recommendations rest on a robust evidence base.
- Integrity, empathy and the ability to contribute to effective decision making in the best interests of all beneficiaries of the Trust
You should also be willing and able to devote the necessary time and effort to the Trust – specifically be available to attend three full day board meetings and at least two half-day committee meetings each year.
This is a voluntary role but reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
