Rosaleen (Rosie) Moriarty-Simmonds in the New Years Honours list

We are delighted that one of our beneficiaries, Rosaleen (Rosie) Moriarty-Simmonds was recognised in the New Years Honours list with an OBE for Services to the Equality and Rights of Disabled People.

After weeks of keeping it a secret, this year’s worthy recipients of the New Year’s Honours can finally crack open the champagne.

All the recipients were notified of their honours by letter last month and have had to keep their lips sealed until today.

Disability-rights campaigner Rosaleen Moriarty-Simmonds from Cyncoed said keeping her honour secret has been tricky. “It’s like being in MI5. I’m good at keeping everyone else’s secrets, just not my own,” she laughed.

“This is the kind of thing people in the services, sports people or celebrities get but ordinary people like myself don’t normally receive.

“I was absolutely stunned. It’s not something you expect and I had no idea that anybody had even nominated me,” she said.
