We know to expect changes to the body with ageing, but this can be particularly difficult when it is your sight.

Finding emotional support

Losing your vision can have a big impact on your mental health and has been linked to loneliness, social isolation, worry, fear and an increased risk of anxiety and depression. The sooner these problems can be identified and treated the better your quality of life will be.

There are often localised support networks in different areas of the UK and within other countries. We can help you identify organisations which offer support in your area. This will help someone who has been identified with vision problems realise they are not alone as well as provide a source in which they can begin to advocate for themselves and their lives.

The Trust online support group meets every 6-8 weeks and offer friendship, support and problem solving.

You can find out more about coping with sight loss from the RNIB website and the information service website Vision Aware.
