International Day of Persons with Disabilities was launched by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992 with the aim of advancing disability rights and to protect the wellbeing of anyone with disabilities at all levels of society.

This year's theme is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." You can find out more about this on the IDPWD website.

According to the World Health Organisation, around 15% of the world’s population is considered to have some form of disability. But often the needs of people with disabilities are not catered for by the society they live in.
