Grey Giddins trained at Cambridge University and St Thomas's Hospital, London. He undertook specialist training in Oxford and London with training abroad in the USA, Canada, France and Sweden.

He held a research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons prior to his appointment in 1995 as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath. He was awarded an ABC travelling fellowship in the USA in 2000.

He has had an interest in both research and training. He has developed new techniques in the treatment of finger fractures and their complications, Dupuytren's disease and the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis. He has published over 40 scientific papers and has given invited lectures at National meetings and lectured widely in the UK. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Orthopaedic Bioengineering at the University of Bath.

Grey is a Council member of the British Society of the Hand, Chairman of their Research and Audit Sub-committee and Assistant Editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery.
