Stop Scams UK have launched a pilot scheme 'Stop, Hang Up, Call 159' fighting fraud
The scheme is a simple system, allowing you to call 159 and talk directly to your bank if you think someone is trying to trick you into handing over money or personal details.
Founded in 2020 by a group of 12 telecoms and banking companies, Stop Scams UK exists to help member companies protect their customers and themselves by stopping scams at source.
The following banks are part of this:
- Lloyds (including Halifax and Bank of Scotland)
- Natwest (including Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank)
- Starling Bank
That covers over 760% of UK primary current account holders. Their aim is to encourage more banks to join.
