Victims of the thalidomide scandal have hailed a break-through in their long battle for justice after the German government finally offered to pay them compensation.
The 468 British survivors, who suffered birth defects after their mothers took the morning sickness drug, will now seek a package worth about 9m a year, or £20,000 each, to pay medical bills.
