Professor Field completed his medical training at the Westminster Hospital in 1980. After being awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1988, he completed his specialist training in Orthopaedics in London, Cambridge and Melbourne. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Helier Hospital, Surrey in 1994 and moved to South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) in 2004. Professor Field has served as a board member of the British Hip Society (BHS) and as a board member and President of the International Society for Hip Preservation Surgery (ISHA). He is a world leader in hip preservation and rapid recovery hip replacement surgery and the most experienced UK surgeon in anterior (DAA) hip replacement.
